Here we are and it is Tuesday once again. This week I found the cutest shop recommended by my lovely friend, Faith Deal of FaithAnn's Originals. Faith was so right this is a wonderful shop, I am in love with all of Nadia's felt creations but really I think the little mouse clip is adorable, you can't get any cuter than that :-). Please read on and visit Nadia's shop as well as Faith's. Thanks for a great feature. BL
Where is your hometown? and current location?
I was born in Taganrog, Russia, grew up in Kiev, Ukraine. My husband and I lived in Crimea, Ukraine, Hungary, Namibia, and Uganda plus visited Germany, South Africa and Botswana with missionary work. 9 years ago we came back to Hungary and about year and a half has passed since we settled here in BudapestWhat do yoWhat do you like about where you live now? ? Budapest is a beautiful city, very green and artistic. We live in the suburb part of town in a house with garden but just 30 min away from the city center, so I get the best of both city and country life at the same time! Do you work outside of the home? No, I am a stay at home mom, my four kids are 12, 10, 6 and 4 years old and I devote my time to them. What inspires you? Felting is a very special form of craft to me, similar to painting or sculpting. You start with shapeless wool and transform it into whatever you wish. That in itself is an inspiration to me. I like working with natural things and ancient methods as it somehow brings me feeling of completeness How did you begin with your art? I started felting as a hobby and a way to make things for my family. Since childhood I was inclined to arts and crafts and have done a lot of them like being a balloon artist for example. I can draw, sew and crochet. My husband and I lived in different countries as missionaries and I always found it handy to be able to come up with needed projects – from making balloons and being a clown to sewing a puppet theater. So it was always in my blood and finding myself less busy recently I needed a challenge and wanted to learn something new so I found felting! Are you more creative in the morning or evening? Evening is definitely my time. The kids tucked in for the night, my “day” is just starting. I have to take that time alone to reflect, meditate, think, and create something, that helps me to keep peace of mind. What do you do for fun? I learn to like what my kids like as we usually have fun together be it watching chick flicks, Ben 10 , taking bike rides, going out for ice cream or sculpting play dough or cooking together. I guess most fun I have enjoying my kids as they are growing up. How would you describe your experience with Etsy? I had big expectations joining Etsy in February but since then realized that they were somewhat unrealistic. I didn’t realize how many hours I would need to spend promoting my shop vs. just creating something and putting it out there. Joining Etsy is a mini business experience I was lacking in my life so far and I am learning a lot whether I end up selling things I make here or moving on to a new stage of my life. Do you participate in any Etsy teams? I am a member of few teams and have been active in a smaller team or two I joined. I find it hard to participate in a bigger team as it isn’t so personal. Teams I am with seem to become friends faster as there are just few of us and we try to help each other promote our stores. Do you sell your products on other sites? No, I started by opening shop on couple more sites but then realized that as limited as my time is I should stick to one and Etsy by far is the biggest so I chose it Do you sell in Etsy BNR’s? What do you like or dislike about the experience? Well, I was planning to sell my brooches and other felted items to make a bit of extra money, so idea of a BNR wasn’t appealing, besides most BNRs are held past midnight Budapest time. Since reading this question I thought to try it just for experience sake and bought into one. Well, it got postponed so I have no response to it as yet I noticed that a lot of sellers from BNRs don’t ship outside North America so that’s a bit of setback for Europeans as well. If you have other sites, blogs, facebook etc, please list your links here. I have a facebook page with my balloon art, recently I added my Etsy to it. www.facebook.com/Lufigura my husband and I have our current project site (it’s hospital visitation program) www.vidambohoc.hu
