We are baaaaack. I took a week off to transfer files to the new blog site. I bought a domain and I am still working on getting everything the way I like it. So, we are a work in progress. I may change the design but anyway.
I wanted to talk about this weeks feature. Etsy is a fasinating site and sometimes I get lost; by clicking on shops that look interesting. I find myself looking at shops that I might not normally cross paths with.
I found this shop while scrolling in Etsy Treasury and Boot Camp. Immediately I was drawn in by the use of colors and crispness of her designs. Even though this is a new Etsy shop, it looked very professional. The photos and descriptions are excellent. I read her profile and knew she would be a great feature for the Tuesday Feature section. But enough nattering from me. Please read all about:
How did you get started with Etsy?
One of my customers asked me if I had a website or brochures of my cards. Then, a friend of mine asked me if I sold my cards online and recommended Etsy. I joined Etsy and did a lot of reading about setting up a shop, Etsy rules, and just learning my way around Etsy.
What inspires you?
Many things inspire me. It could be my kids, my hubby, the weather or a particular song playing on the radio. Often, I will look at supplies, say, a piece of ribbon (for example) and then my mind goes flying into creating a card incorporating this ribbon.
Where is your hometown? Current location?
I was born and raised in Montreal, Canada. After spending many years abroad, I was happy to settle back in Montreal.
What do you like about where you live now?
I love Montreal for its diverse culture. My kids have the opportunity to learn French, English and Spanish in elementary school. Montreal is a beautiful city with a lot of ‘green’ spaces and is a city which hosts a variety of festivals (Jazz, Comedy, Fireworks, to name but a few).
How did you begin with your art?
I have been crafting for as long as I can remember. I have always been interested in anything hand made. I have tried my hand at knitting, quilling, needlepoint, embroidery, tatting, painting, drawing, cross-stitching and creating scrapbooks.
Around the time my son was born, the scrapbooking crazing took off. I was blown away with all the supplies and tools available. I created many scrapbooks and learned many techniques such as embossing, paper folding and 3-d decoupage. At the same time, I began creating gift cards for family and friends.
My network of friends, neighbors, and family encouraged me to sell my cards instead of simply giving them away. That is how Création Carte Atout was born.
How would you describe your experience with Etsy?
I am delighted with Etsy and all of its resources. Etsy makes it easy to set up a shop and manage transaction. There as so many precious articles and references available covering many aspects of starting a business.
As for other members of Etsy, well I only have good things to say. I have joined several forum threads and met a variety of artists and crafters. Everyone is so open, friendly and helpful. I do have a soft spot for my fellow Shopper’s Paradise group. The list-masters /list-helpers and many current members have been most welcoming, patient and so helpful.
What advice would you give to a Etsy beginner?
Etsy is easy and user-friendly – it is packed with resources. Take your time to read about Etsy and get a feel of Etsy. Joining in the forum is a great way to meet people and learn.
Are you more creative in the morning or evening?
I’ve always been a night owl… there’s something about crafting at night that is enchanting. With two young kids, crafting at night is the way I unwind and just spend time for myself…..besides, there are less distractions so my brain can zip away, creating, without interruptions!
What do you do for fun?
I love to play with my kids. We are often on the move; whether we’re off on a bike ride, a walk, off to a sports game, or simply playing in our backyard. Also, going out for coffee with a friend or attending a cooking class, is good for my soul ….. AND …. shopping! I love a good sale!
Are you on any Etsy teams?
Not as of yet. That is my next challenge; to research and learn about various teams. I am, however, part of the Shopper’s Paradise thread and have joined the Holiday Boot Camp blog.
Do you have other sites or blogs? Posts links if you like.
I only sell via Etsy, for the moment, but I am in the process of creating my own blog at www.creationcarteatout.ca.
My 3 favorite items:
Most of my items are OOAK and once they sell, they are gone!
A nice glimpse into the creative process. Be sure to visit her site.
