You never know who you will find on Etsy, I have been amazed at the artistic talents of the people that I have met along the Etsy way. Lynette is one of the wonderful and amazing people that I have met through Etsy. I think you will understand once you read her story and see what a inspiration she is to others who have been faced with some tough challenges. I would call her a Jill of All Trades, she creates art,is a photographer and has some nifty vintage items in her shop.
So, please read more and visit her shop too.
Where is your hometown? I grew up in a little town named Alto, outside of Grand Rapids, Michigan.
What do you like about where you live now? I live on Upper Padre Island in Corpus Christi, TX. I love the island life. It’s bright and sunny year round. The island is a small community, and really laid back but there’s lots of things to do to keep you busy.
Tell us a little about your daily life- My daily life has lots of ups and downs. Early this year I was deemed disabled due to a chronic illness very much like Multiple Sclerosis. I stopped working full time in April, and day to day I have different ailments that plague me. It has been a life-changing event. I have to operate when my body allows me to. I no longer have the luxury of doing everyday things that I once took granted of. I have learned to live every minute for the moment and take advantage of my creative side and find peace and joy in ‘the little things in life’.
How did you get started with Etsy? I noticed a friend of mine on Facebook who opened an Etsy Business. She too has medical issues that prevent her from working outside the home and thought I’d give it a try.
What inspires you? I find a lot of inspiration in my surroundings. I feel a little bit closer to heaven on the beach. Getting out outside near the water and enjoying the beauty in God’s creations is one of my favorite things.
How did you begin with your art? I love old nautical collectibles. I noticed some ‘beach themed’ home decor on a tour of a Costal Living Home here on the island. I wanted some of those items for my own home and knew I could make them out of my already large collection of washed up seashells and beach salvaged debris.
What do you do for fun? I like spending time walking on the beach, fishing, watching birds, and of course, looking for new sea shells.
How would you describe your experience with Etsy? It has been a very welcome and inspiring experience. I used to sell off price new clothing and soft goods on eBay for years and besides my regular cliental I had very little joy in doing what I did. I did fabulous financially, but never had some of the relationships and out pour of community as Etsy have offered already.
What advice would you give to an Etsy beginner? I am a beginner! Some of my challenges have been learning the networking involved. It’s something new and really never used on eBay. I would suggest taking some time reading the Seller Handbook, forums, and taking advantage of the outpour and generosity of people that want to share information.
Are you on any Etsy teams? If so what do you like about Etsy team
I am currently on 3 BNS threads- Craftheart, Babynest, and Pig Castle. I love seeing what everyone is creating, and the sense of belonging to a group of fellow crafters.
What do you think about the Bnr experience? It has been fun meeting other sellers. I think many new sellers need to take advantage of it as there is a huge ‘free market’ to get your name out there, meet some veteran etsians, and find some lovely items along the way.
Do you sell your products on other sites, or have blogs if so list the link. I still tinker on EBay on a different user name. I closed my old store on eBay because I felt it was misleading because I no longer sold the same product. I list estate finds, things from my home, and some other little items occasionally under the name of jabberocky1. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Corpus-Christi-TX/Sea-Shells-by-Sea-Shore/158993574137543 and I am @LuckySeaBean on Twitter (its under my business name- seashellsbyseahsore
